“My experience at Newman has been nothing short of spectacular! The science program and faculty have done an amazing job helping me prepare for my future. I am growing not only academically, but also spiritually. Newman University is forming my character to make me a much better-rounded individual. This has all been made possible with your help and support. Thank you!” – Joseph Baalmann, Biology Major
The De Mattias Society is a community of individuals and organizations who pledge to unite in a shared vision of excellence for Newman University by supporting scholarships and academic programming.
The De Mattias Society is named in honor of St. Maria De Mattias, the foundress of Newman University's sponsoring religious congregation, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ. St. Maria, a 19th century educator, pioneered the belief that all people should have the opportunity to seek and gain knowledge in a faith-filled environment, regardless of their financial situation. The De Mattias Society is designed to continue that tradition, by supporting the university's mission of providing for students the knowledge, skills and experiences to develop academically, socially and spiritually.
De Mattias Society members include alumni, friends, parents, employees, organizations, foundations and corporations who believe so strongly in the university's mission and gospel values that they commit $1,000 or more each academic year in unrestricted funds to support the university, or a total of $3,000 or more for restricted needs, such as music scholarships or athletic programs. Eligibility is based on the prior fiscal year ending June 30.
By uniting in a shared vision of excellence for Newman University, society members take a leading role in providing students with life-changing educational experiences, and the opportunity to pursue knowledge at the intersection of faith and reason.
Within the De Mattias Society, donors will be recognized based on these giving levels.
