I came to NECO not only with the intent to learn and succeed, but also to grow and develop into a leader. I have pursued this in many different forms. I was privileged to travel to Nicaragua last January to provide eye care to people in remote areas of the country. Armed with essentially no Spanish and with minimal supplies, I pulled from every ounce of my determination to transcend communication boundaries and overcome the lack of equipment. At the core of this trip was the feeling that everyone, regardless of income or status, has the right to receive the best eye care possible. I still carry this sentiment in my heart everyday while I work in the clinics around Boston. These experiences have helped me grow into a strong leader and I feel ready to face challenges ahead while continuing to uphold the values strengthened in me here at NECO.
