Little did Pat Queenan know that when she married Dan Sheehan in 1957 that a University would become a part of her inheritance.
"Danny worked three jobs and commuted from Highland Park to earn his degree from Saint Peter's," Pat remembers about her late husband who passed away in 1961. "Because the University was that important to him, it has stayed that important to me."
Patricia Q. Sheehan '77 Hon. currently is a member of the University's Board of Regents and has been either a Trustee or a Regent since 1977. She was the first women to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees, a role she handled with great skill from 1984 to 1986. Since those years, her love for and service to Saint Peter's has not diminished.
"The kids here today remind me so much of ones when Dan was a student. Most of them are the first ones in their family to attend a college and many of them are doing the same thing my husband did to pay his tuition, work more than one job. These kids are still willing to sacrifice for something worthwhile."
Pat believes the Jesuit education a student receives at Saint Peter's is worthwhile. She supports that belief, both financially and with her time. She is a member of the Shanahan Heritage Society and has made a gift annuity to the University. Since 1972, Pat has been the moderator of most of the Board of Regents' annual Business Symposium.
Pat Sheehan brings honor and prestige to any Saint Peter's event she is associated with. She is a former Mayor of New Brunswick (where her daughter Elizabeth now serves on the town council) and was an executive with Johnson & Johnson until her retirement in 1993. Two other colleges have recognized her achievements with Honorary Degrees.
"Many wonderful things have happened in my life so far," she says, but probably none as wonderful as a party she attended in New Brunswick when she was a senior at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. That's where she met Dan Sheehan, who was in the Georgetown University Law School at the time.
That meeting led to a loving marriage, three children and an association with Saint Peter's University that looks to last a lifetime.
