Brian Bruce
Investing in Champions Through Estate Plans

Brian Bruce grew up in Athens, GA, and graduated in 1977, from the University of Georgia with a degree in Risk Management and Insurance from the Terry College of Business. Brian started in the insurance business in Charlotte, NC and then moved on to executive positions in the Marathon Oil Company. Brian recently retired from Marathon Oil in Ohio and has moved back to Athens where he enjoys attending various sporting events at the University.

Brian began giving to our foundation in support of UGA Athletics years ago after he learned that his company would match his gifts. Realizing that "the impact would be greater with the matching gifts" Brian set his course of annual and major gift support to women's athletic programs. Former women's golf Coach Beans Kelly was influential in getting Brian involved in women's golf. "Barking" Brian met Beans and golfer Angela Jerman at a Tournament in Ohio where Brian formed a long-term relationship with Angela and her family. Brian is currently endowing a scholarship named the Bruce/Jerman Women's Golf Scholarship in honor of Angela's dad.

Brian recently crafted his estate plans and included a seven–figure bequest to our foundation to specifically endow and support scholarships in women's golf, gymnastics, women's swimming and diving, softball and women's soccer. Through his planning, Brian has ensured that his gifts will be used as he intended after his passing and that women's sports at the University of Georgia will be supported in perpetuity. Brian created his legacy in support of UGA Women's Athletics because "his connection back home was always through Athletics" and because "of the great quality of the student athletes, the coaches, the administration, and the overall program." Brian is truly investing in our future champions.

Stop by and say hello to Brian if you are in Athens for an event, because he will certainly be there!
