New IRA Law Helps Donor Intentions

With the new IRA distribution law in effect through this year, a donor can direct up to $100,000 from an IRA (traditional or Roth) to a qualified charitable organization. Dr. Robert and Mrs. Vivian Reardon took advantage of this new law last December and helped Illinois Wesleyan and their other charitable interests.

Bob and Vivian wanted to support the construction fund for the new Minor Myers Welcome Center and continue to provide funding for the University's operating budget/scholarship fund. They directed their financial advisors to send funds to IWU and accomplished both objectives. The University is indeed very grateful for the Reardons' continuing support, as are the students receiving financial assistance through their generosity.

Bob and Vivian agree that "this is a way for us to help Illinois Wesleyan continue to provide exceptional educational experiences and also assist students who might otherwise not be able to afford to attend IWU. And, while our gifts are helping others, we are actually saving money by not being taxed on the IRA distribution. It's really a great opportunity that we hope others will utilize."
