HealthEast Care System is a not-for-profit, 501 (c) 3, faith-based health care organization with a mission of serving our community's health care needs. We provide a full spectrum of family health services. Hospitals include St. Joseph's Hospital, St. John's Hospital, Bethesda Hospital and Woodwinds Health Campus. Other services include clinics, rehabilitation facilities, hospice, home care, outpatient surgery centers and a variety of other health facilities and programs.
A history of caring
Our legacy of caring for the community goes back more than 150 years when the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet responded to a cholera epidemic and founded St. Joseph's Hospital, Minnesota's first hospital, in 1853. Bethesda Hospital was founded 30 years later to care for the growing Swedish population. St. John's Hospital was founded in 1911 and our newest hospital, Woodwinds Health Campus, opened in 2000. With rich and varied histories, all of our hospitals embrace the same generous spirit of service to others.
High quality, compassionate health care
As we focus on meeting the future health care needs of our community, we face mounting financial pressures, like other non-profit health care organizations across the country. Our patients and community members deserve only high quality, compassionate health care. We want the best for our family, friends and neighbors - especially when it comes to health.
The best health care springs from new research and discoveries about treating diseases and promoting health and healing. This learning and the ability to put it to use, ensures that we all benefit from some of the finest health care in the world. Yet this also means that insurance and government reimbursements do not always cover the total costs of providing care. As a non-profit organization, HealthEast constantly reinvests our revenues in ways that benefit our patients.
