Jerry and Jackie Becker and Rosie
Jackie and Jerry Becker Know a "Doggone Good Cause" When They See One

Jackie and Jerry Becker consider themselves fortunate in life and like helping others. Jerry had a long career in the medical industry before he retired in 1995. During that time he traveled to 41 countries and often Jackie would travel with him.
They still love to travel and manage to take a couple of trips a year. The Beckers have one son, one daughter and two granddaughters. And don't forget their 7-year old English Sheepdog mix, Rosie! Now they'd like to share some of that good fortune—particularly with the Humane Society of Missouri.

"We are just animal lovers who want to give gifts to the things we believe in," Jackie says. "We believe in the Humane Society. It is a very good cause."

The St. Louis couple has made regular gifts to the Society since 1988, but since December 2006 they have added to those donations with two very significant gifts of stock.

"Jerry and I have always loved dogs, have always had dogs, and we do not like to see animals mistreated," Jackie says. "People should not have animals if they don't care for them, but at least we have the Humane Society. We knew they could use the money. They take in so many animals."

For example, this past summer the Humane Society of Missouri led investigations into three substandard puppy mills and then rescued the dogs and puppies, incurring many expenses including veterinary medical care and extensive rehabilitation.

In addition, the Humane Society of Missouri runs the Cinderella Fund that enables the Humane Society to go that extra mile for animals that have suffered abuse or neglect and require medical treatment that is beyond the scope of regular adoption center procedures. The Humane Society also provides a low-cost spay/neuter program that combats the pet overpopulation issue. Another important service is the humane education programs, which are aimed at teaching children character education by encouraging kindness and empathy for all living creatures.

"The people who work at the Humane Society are so dedicated, and they really do spend a lot of money on these animals," Jackie says.

"Jerry and I both appreciate the wonderful work they do, and, definitely, we are glad to be able to help. You just can't beat the value the Humane Society gives you for your dollar."
