NET Foundations Receives $1.5 Million Gift
Often the best gifts are those you least expect.
Such was the case with longtime NET supporter Anne Urban Alt, of St. Paul, Nebraska, who recently bequeathed $1.5 million to the NET Foundation for Television. The gift will support NET's Inspire Nebraska Campaign, which aims to raise $25 million for program production and acquisition by 2012.
Alt was a loyal supporter at the basic membership level for decades, and until Michele Peón-Casanova, NET Foundations Director of Planned and Major Giving, was contacted by Alt's lawyer last fall, no one expected such a large and generous gift from her.
Yet clearly she loved and respected NET Television and PBS programming. "NET Television keeps me in touch with the world outside my rural home. I couldn't live without the NewsHour, and almost every evening I find something fascinating to watch on NET," wrote Alt in a letter to NET in 2004.
"We are incredibly appreciative of Ms. Alt for her generous estate gift to NET Television," said NET Foundations Executive Director Jeff Beckman. "Her gift will ensure that the quality news and entertainment programs she loved during her lifetime will thrive and continue to impact others."
