Honoring Friendship, Fostering Opportunity

As undergraduates, student-athletes, and fellow Newman Club members at the University of New Hampshire, Jerry Sullivan '59 and Robert Trouville '59 forged a friendship that endured long after their time together in Durham. So when Trouville, a Wildcat quarterback, was diagnosed with a terminal illness in late 2006, lacrosse player Sullivan didn't want to wait to express his gratitude to Trouville for their five decades of friendship.

In 2007, Sullivan established the Robert J. Trouville '59 Athletic Scholarship Fund to honor his lifelong friend. Trouville passed away in 2008, and soon after, classmates and friends stepped forward to help complete the funding of the scholarship. The new Trouville Fund ensures the memory of the "Flying Frenchman" will remain a vibrant one at the Class of 1959's 50th reunion in June, and will be a source of inspiration for future generations of UNH students.

In addition to his current gifts, Sullivan has made provisions in his will for future support of the Trouville Athletic Scholarship endowment. "Bobby was a special guy. He loved his family and his friends, and he loved UNH," says Sullivan. "It meant the world to him to know he would be remembered this way."
