Professional Affiliates Program

Since March 1, 2007 CARE's Professional Affiliate group has worked with CARE staff as a team to help their clients and CARE donors think strategically about philanthropy as an integrated part of their long-term planning. No advisor or CARE staff member possesses all of the answers to all possible philanthropic giving situations. Therefore the PA network can provide invaluable resources for industry-specific issues. The PA network can also utilize specialists from other professions (i.e. editorial, strategic planning) to produce pro bono consultancies to solve CARE's most urgent business needs.

We offer several engagement opportunities for professionals who would like to make a meaningful contribution that takes advantage of your life training and experience. For more information on how you can help, please contact Trish Rooks at trooks@care.org.

For a recent affiliate contribution, see the below testimony from CARE's 2008 National Conference from one of our newest affiliates, Alex Delotch Davis of Atlanta, Georgia:

"There were so many things to take away from CARE's National Conference that I'm sure I would be remiss if I attempted to address everything. So I'll focus on what touched me most. On the morning of the first day, there was a session for 'First-timers'; those who were making their first trip to the Hill or at least their first trip with CARE. At that session, the moderator was attempting to allay our fears of addressing senators, representatives and speaking intelligently on the issues. I thought surely there were important details to discuss and warnings to layout so we wouldn't make some blunder to cost CARE critical political consideration. But that wasn't the point at all. The point the moderator made was the work that we came there to do that week was not only important and valuable, it was easy.

That message was something I would take home and share with everyone I know. So often we see things in our communities, our social systems and our world that need change or help or development. And so often we feel too small and insignificant to do anything about it. We feel too uneducated or too far away from the center of things. After attending the CARE Conference, I know that none of that is true. The mantra "I am powerful" was made very real through the work we did on those two days.

I had the honor of attending dinner at the residence of Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan as part of CARE's 62nd Anniversary Celebration. It was wonderful to be part of this celebration. Sharing that dinner with CARE officers, benefactors and dedicated volunteers gave me an opportunity to see the spirit of the people behind this organization. Although I met many of the guests there for the first time, it felt like a dinner amongst friends. Ambassador Sarukahan and Deputy Chief Ventura were gracious hosts who made everyone feel welcome from the start. It was an enjoyable evening and at its end it seemed clear that CARE has built warm relationships on all levels that bolster their work in fighting global poverty at its roots."
