The Robert Wilson Challenge

The Robert Wilson Charitable Trust has agreed to make a gift in recognition of any planned gift, be it a bequest, charitable remainder trust, beneficiary designation on a life-insurance policy, or any other deferred gift to the National Trust, up to $100,000. The Wilson Charitable Trust will write a check immediately for 10% of the value of your planned gift even though your planned gift will not mature for years. This matching gift ensures that your planned gift will generate cash for the National Trust TODAY.

How does it work?

Step 1: Make your plans.
Include the National Trust for Historic Preservation in your will or as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement assets, make a life income gift to the National Trust, or donate your home as a Gift of Heritage.

Step 2: Let us know.
Use the Deferred Gift Notification Form to inform us of your decision.

Step 3: Your donation is matched!
A cash donation of 10% of the value of your gift will be made by the Wilson Charitable Trust immediately. All previously unrecorded commitments are eligible for the match.

Examples:
1. An individual informs the National Trust for Historic Preservation that it is to be a beneficiary of his trust, which is managed by his bank. The value of the assets designated for the National Trust is $165,000. After the donor completes the appropriate documentation required for the Wilson Preservation Legacy Challenge, a match of $10,000 will be designated for the National Trust.

2. A staff member at Chesterwood, a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, identifies a supporter interested in a charitable gift annuity. Working with the Planned Giving Office at HQ, the donor establishes a $35,000 charitable gift annuity with the National Trust to benefit Chesterwood. A match of $3,500 will be designated for the National Trust.

3. An individual makes a gift of their 1897 Queen Anne style house (through the Gifts of Heritage Program) to the National Trust for Historic Preservation through her will. The property is valued at $385,000. A match of $10,000 will be designated to the Historic Sites Fund (unless otherwise directed by the donor, Gifts of Heritage benefit the Historic Sites).
