Carol McLeod's vision is to provide support to students in the College of Fine Arts through an estate gift she has established with UNLV. For Carol and her late husband, William, the arts brought enjoyment—and she hopes the value the arts bring to the community will be sustained. Her gift will provide scholarships for students in the jazz studies program. "William loved jazz and music," Carol says. "I wanted to provide scholarships and help the students succeed."
Carol says that she and her husband had long been supporters of education, and since they have no children of their own, she wanted to put her donation to good use. "What better thing than to support education? Going to school and working is not an easy thing to do," Carol says. "Since we live here, we thought we would support the education community here."
Carol hopes her commitment to education will be an example for others. She hopes her gift will make the community more aware that others could be doing the same thing she is—thinking of estate plans before they pass away.
"In addition to helping the students who want to advance their careers, I hope this helps to develop the people in the community, bring them here, and keep them here, while further developing the cultural community," Carol says.
